Mylar pinwheels are one way to deter Canada geese. Geese are sensitive to visual stimuli and may find the reflective surfaces and motion of the pinwheels unsettling. This can deter geese from sticking around, especially when they’re preparing to have their young.

Above is a photo of mylar pinwheels set up around a large pond in Berks County. While these pinwheels can act as a deterrent for geese, Canada geese who have already had their young may not be deterred. If the young cannot fly, the geese may not be persuaded to move away from the pond.

A family with new goslings, like the ones pictured here, are going to be less likely to leave an area with pinwheels than they would be if it were just the adult geese.
While pinwheels can be an effective mitigation strategy, and they do not disturb the visual appeal of your pond or backyard, they aren’t a guaranteed solution.
